Ambedkar, Dalits and Buddhism is a collection of Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Annual Lectures, including one Special Lecture, delivered by a number of scholars during the period 1995-2007. The thoughts and philosophy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has inspired the toiling masses, particularly Dalits, to march ahead for self-liberation and development.Several distinguished social scientists, from India and abroad, have analysed his writings and contributions to the nation-building and the deconstruction of the Hindu social order and construction of a new social order based on equality, liberty and fraternity. His scientific, rational and temporal interpretation of Buddhismand contributions to its revival and growth in India have also been highlighted. All the lectures, except the special lecture, have already been printed but they are being published in a book form in order to serve a wider readership. About Author : Nandu Ram, Dr. Ambedkar Chair Professor of Sociology, teaches at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has published a number of research papers in national and international journals. Over three decades of teaching and research, he has developed the Perspective from Below to analyse social reality in general and that pertaining to the deprived and marginalised groups and communities in particular. His writings have also motivated a number of young scholars to contribute to such perspective. His other books are The Mobile Scheduled Castes: Rise of a New Middle Class (1988); Beyond Ambedkar: Essays on Dalits in India (1995, Revised Edition 2008); Encylopaedia of Scheduled Castes in India, Vol. 1 - South India (2007); Dalits in Contemporary India, Vol. 1 - Discrimination and Discontent (2008); and Caste System and Untouchability in South India (2008). His forthcoming books are Encylopaedia of Scheduled Castes in India, Vol. 2 - North India and Vol. 3 - Central India; and Dalits in Contemporary India, Vol. 2 - Reservation, Development and Assertion.
