Description
The first volume provides an introduction to money. It starts off with the story of the evolution of money and what is construed as money in a modern economy. The concept of banks reserves and their role in money creation is clearly demonstrated. The book adopts a simple and easily comprehensible T-account approach to illustrate the transactions. It also covers cash-like instruments such as credit and debit cardsand discusses why credit card limits are not considered to be money. The book concludes with a quantitative discussion of the money and credit multipliers in an economy. The book is written in a racy and conversational style with plenty of examples to explain every concept, statistics on money and money supply (from India and the US), and extensive use of T-account diagrams to reinforce the presentation. The book is aimed at professionals as well as students and does not presuppose any knowledge of economics or mathematics.
