This undergraduate textbook attempts to present the basic concepts in quantum mechanics with emphasis on application in areas like atomic and molecular spectroscopy, quantum well structures, nuclear physics, astrophysics, solid state physics, etc. It begins with a brief historical introduction to quantum mechanics. This is followed by discussions on wave-particle duality and the uncertainty principles, the Schrodinger equation and its solutions. Chapters have also been devoted to the angular momentum problem, the hydrogen atom problem, the spin half problem and the Sten-Gerlach experiment, the fine structure in one electron atoms and in alkali atoms, the Zeeman effect, the Paschen Back effect and the double well problem. This is followed by a discussion of the matrix method, which has been used to solve the multiple quantum well problem and the multiple barrier problem.
