Health education enhances the democratic learning processes, human dignity, and community value systems. Health education can be defined as the area in which social and health sciences are applied to facilitate the development of healthy lifestyles and behavior. Therefore, in places where no organized health institutions are available, it is important that people in the community be organized to solve their health problems through their own efforts. Based on the author's experience in India's community health education programs, this book explains, evaluates, and theorizes on the important issues of health. It examines the potential of India's culturally- and historically-rooted, action-oriented, educational methods, and addresses the problems of deprived groups of people, such as women, children with special needs, and the elderly. The book will be useful for development workers, activists, planners, and policy makers.
