This is surely the best and most interesting introduction to inorganic chemistry that I have come across. If this does not get you interested in the subject, I don't know what will. I have been using this book for almost six years now. I have used it to prepare for entrance exams, for college and university courses and for general reading. It starts with an overview of basic principles of bonding and trends in the periodic table. The rest of the book is then devoted to the discussion of individual groups of elements. But this is no drab discussion where paragraphs with the title 'uses of X' where X is an element, abound. Lee instead focuses on the most essential and interesting properties of the elements. As the title indicated, the discussion is concise, but never compromises on the essentials. The applications of inorganic chemical science which Lee chooses are most interesting and pervade all aspects of our material existence. He gives due importance to special topics such as Pollution, Bioinorganic Chemistry, The Atomic Nucleus and Spectra. He mixes the right blend of theory and application in this work. In fact, its such a pleasure to read this book, that it actually makes good bedtime reading! Its one of those very few technical books which you can read casually. Many 'other' chemists find inorganic chemistry boring. However, an understanding of its basic principles is of paramount importance to a study of any other chemical dicipline, not to mention its inherently interesting ideas, and its application to the material world. This book shows you how.
