Political violence and instability in the Middle East is arguably the world's most important political issue. This book surveys the main conflicts and insurgencies in recent Middle East history, focusing mainly on the period since the 1980s. Barry Rubin is Director of the Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center of the Interdisciplinary University in Herzliya, Israel. He is also editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal, and of Turkish Studies. He has written or edited more than 50 books on Middle East Politics and history, including most recently The Truth about Syria, and The Long War for Freedom; Yasir Arafat: A Political Biography; and The Tragedy of the Middle East.
