Author Biography
Gautam N Allahbadia is presently serving as the Consultant Fertility Physician at the Dr. LH Hiranandani Center for Human Reproduction, Powai, Mumbai as well as the Director, IVF, The Prince Aly Khan Center for Human Reproduction, Mumbai and as the Scientific Director of Rotunda – The Center for Human Reproduction, Bandra-Mumbai. He was a lecturer for over four years at the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College followed by a 12 year tenure at the University of Mumbai affiliated Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences before going full time into clinical practice. He is presently one of the infertility experts on the European Infertility Network (www.ein.org) and has recentlybeen elected as the General Secretary of the World Association of Reproductive Medicine (WARM) headquartered in Rome, Italy. He is the Web Master for the SISAB (Society of Indian Scientists Abroad) website on the Internet (www.sisab.net). His principal interests are assisted reproductive techniques and transvaginal sonography. He has edited seven books in the field, including monographs on Intrauterine Insemination and Manual of Ovulation Induction and has authored over 120 international and national publications. He is now on the editorial board of 5 international journals. He is the recipient of the national prize, Dr. Kumud Tamaskar award (1991), Vancouver, for original research work in infertility; Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst fellowship for the year 1996 to acquire training in Assisted Reproductive Techniques in Germany; the AOFOG-Young Gynecologist Award for the year 1998; and FOGSI-CORION National Research award (1998) for best original research work in infertility. Rubina Merchant, Ph.D, is currently an Embryologist at Rotunda – The Center for Human Reproduction, Bandra-Mumbai. A doctorate in Genetics from Osmania University, Hyderabad and a postgraduate from the University of Hyderabad, she has actively worked in the various core disciplines of science spanning from Cellular and Molecular Biology and Genetics to Immunology, Reproductive Physiology and Endocrinology, Infertility, Neurobiology and Cancer Biology. The science of Assisted Reproduction, however, remains her main area of interest.
