The present book is an attempt to analyse some of the outstanding post-colonial writers like Arundhati Roy (Booker Prize winner 1997), Vikram Chandra (Commonwealth Prize winner 1997), Derek Walcott (Nobel Prize winner), Margaret Atwood (Booker Prize winner 2000), Jayanta Mahapatra, Dom Moraes, Nissim Ezekiel, Keki N. Daruwalla, Kamala Das, Shiv K. Kumar, Anita Desai, Shashi Deshpande, Ruskin Bond (all Sahitya Akademi Award winners) in the light of post-colonial theory. Apart from analysing individual authors, an attempt has also been made to show the trends in post-colonial poetry, Indian English fiction, Orissan contribution to post-colonial Indian English literature and above all, post-colonial English studies in India. About Author: Bijay Kumar Das, Ph.D., D.Litt., is a contributor to The Encyclopaedia of World Literature in the 20th Century (New York). He has published a number of books and research papers on British Literature, Post-colonial Literature, Literary Criticism, Translation Studies and Comparative Literature. His important books include Post-modern Indian English Literature (2006), Twentieth Century Literary Criticism (2005), A Handbook of Translation Studies (2005), Critical Essays on Poetry (2003), The Poetry of Jayanta Mahapatra (2001), Shiv K. Kumar as a Postcolonial Poet (2001), A Reader’s Guide to Ten Twentieth Century Indian Poets (1999), The Horizon of Nissim Ezekiel’s Poetry (1995), Aspects of Commonwealth Literature (1995), Perspectives on Indian English Poetry Criticism (1993), and Modern Indian EnglishPoetry (1992). He has edited three reference books: Comparative Literature (2000), Perspectives on the Poetry of R. Parthasarathy (1998) and Contemporary Indo-English Poetry (1988). He has co edited one reference book, Studies in Post-Colonial Literature (2007) and several textbooks including Nineteenth Century English Poetry (1992, 1998). He has published scores of research papers on Shakespeare, Keats, Leavis, Yeats, Eliot, Ezekiel, Ramanujan, Jayanta Mahapatra, Kamala Das, Shiv K. Kumar, R. Parthasarathy, Arundhati Roy, Anita Desai, Vikram Chandra, Shashi Deshpande, Derek Walcott, Margaret Atwood, Ted Hughes, Derrida, Post-colonial Poetry, Art of Translation, Issues in 20th Century Literary Criticism, Comparative Literature and Post-colonial Theory. He has successfully guided 13 Ph.D. scholars. He is the Editor of The Critical Endeavour and the Chief Editor of The Indian Journal of English Studies (2006-2008). Formerly a Reader in English at Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, Dr. Das is now a Professor of English at Burdwan University, Burdwan (West Bengal).
