About The Author Bachi J. Karkaria is National Metro Editor of the Times of India and among India’s leading journalists. She is the first Indian on the Board of the World Editors Forum, and is also on the Board of the India AIDS Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She is a popular columnist, an authority on urbanization and AIDS, and recipient of the international Mary Morgan-Hewitt Award for Lifetime Achievement. She is the author of To a Grand Design, on the life and times of Calcutta’s Grand Hotel. A selection of her articles and columns has been compiled in two collections, Erratica and Your Flip Is Showing. She has written a musical revue and adapted The Rummy Game, which was successfully staged in India, Europe and the USA. She is married, and lives with her two sons and a daughter-in-law.
