Development As Freedom is book that lays emphasis on international development, and it is written by Amartya Sen. In this book, Sen postulates that all people are gifted with specific qualities and abilities, and once they discover these abilities, they escape from poverty and their state of pugnaciousness. The book also showcases the argument that income should not be considered as the most influential factor while discussing development, and many people are unable to discover their abilities, which has resulted in their state of so called Un-freedom. Amartya Sen expands the regular discussions of freedom by analysing a few forms of freedom, such as freedom when it comes to politics, facilities within economics, opportunities that one may come across socially, and guarantees whenit comes to transparency and security. These different forms of freedom are related to one another, complementary and inseparable. The book also contains arguments regarding the development of India and China, as the author feels that India has greater assurance of long-term, stable growth.
Amartya Sen is a well-known Indian economist. He was awarded the 1998 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He has also assisted in forming the UN Human Development Index. Amartya Sen is, at present, a professor at Harvard University, and teaches Economics and Philosophy. He was born on November 3, 1933, in Santiniketan, West Bengal.
