In 1991 India launched a series of wide-ranging economic reforms. In this volume, the contributors critically evaluate the twin objectives of the reforms and suggest important policy correctives for alleviating poverty. The compiled chapters present recent empirical data on the stabilization and structural adjustment measures introduced in India and their impact on the balance of payments, growth, employment, and inflation, as well as the combined result of all these on poverty.
