Prior to 1950 all the civil engineering structures were constructedsatisfying only strength criterion. From then onwards, various codes of practicein the world (DIN, NBCC, ACI, ASCE- FIP, BSS, SAA, ISI, etc.,) promulgated (madeknown by open declaration) that the structures should be compulsorily checkedfor serviceability criterion. Bearing in mind, the future general direction and tendency ofstructural engineering design practice, the theory on Structural Stability isintroduced in this text. The philosophy of this text is to convey the twofollowing maxims: Any structural analysis solution must be checked for itscorrectness by another independent theoretical considerations; Any analysisshould be explicit, simple, rational and easy to comprehend by the learners. Toattain the above two objective, the text givesalternative formulations which are substantiated by a plethora of examples.
