Political Theory is seen here as a discipline of a wider subject. Political Science has always been marching towards great heights. It has always enlivened itself to newer challenges and has, in the process, offered remedies to the problmes coming in its way. From time to time, Political Theory has attempted to give new orientations to concepts such as demicracy, libterty, equality, rights, justice, citizenship and property. Terms such as 'gender' and 'civil society' bring in new dimensions. The present study also covers the various debates going on in the contemporary political theory. Issues such as democracy and economic growth, justification of censorship, protective discrimination and role of state in family affaris have also been discussed in the present study.

N. D. Arora taught Political Science for over four decades. He retired as Reader in Political Science from PGDAV College, University of Delhi. He did his M.A. (Punjab) in 1960 and Ph.D. (Kurukshetra) in 1974. His interest lies in the discipline as a whole, but his area of special inquiry has always been Political Theory. In addition to his acrticles published in the academic journals, his other workds include The Lok Sabha Elections in India: A Statistical Study (1977); Theory of State (1983) and Political Theory (1996). Shiv Shanker Awasthy has been teaching Political Science in PGDAV College (University of Delhi) for the last thirty-four years. He has also been associated with the postgraduate teaching through personal contact programme of Himachal University in Political Science and Public Administration. He also writes short stories and poems for which he has received several awards. His interests include acting and T.V scripts writing as well. He has written a serial Antardaah for national network of Doordarshan in addition to scripts for several documentaries. He has written Political Theory (1996), Indian Government and Politics (1999) and Federalism and President's Rule in India.
