Labour Welfare is an extension of the term Welfare and its application to labour. During the industrialization process, the stress on labour productivity increased; and brought about changes in the thinking on labour welfare. The concept of labour welfare has received inspiration from the concepts of democracy and welfare state. Democracy does not simply denote a form of government; it is rather a way of life based on certain values such as equal rights and privileges for all. Employment is the main source of livelihood and self-fulfilment for most women and men live and view their lives. A well-nurtured and productive labour force contributes towards a dynamic economy and equitable society. It is expected that the book would serve the interests of the students as a source of information for understanding and appreciating the finer aspects of Labour Welfare in India and Our Employment Policy.About the AuthorRavindra B. Prasad, b. 1963, Asst. Professor at Jaglal Choudhary College, obtained his all higher qualifications from Patna Univesity, B.A. (Hons.) and M.A in Political Science and M.Phil from Delhi University, qualified UGC, NET. He is working in same capacity for last twelve years on permanent basis. At present he is also pursuing his Ph.D from Magadh University.
