The FREE PRESS JOURNAL in the 1950s was a virtula workshop churning out dozens of fully trained journalists, who excelled in the profession for the nextfifty years. The early fifties had a galaxy of them: M V Kamath, T J S George, K Shivram, M.K.B. Nair, Bal Thackeray, S. Viswam, P.K. Ravindranath, M P Iyer, R. Venkatachari, S.B. Kolpe.. All of them in thier twenties and rearing to go.This is the story of one such young man, K Shivram, who blossomed into a master page-designer and headline writer, in the days when everything had to be done on the flong in the pres room. Shivram's story as the master craftsman in the newsroom is narrated by his peers. About Author : P K Ravindranath has been a journalist for five decades in Mumbai. He has been associated with several prominent newspapers and journals in India and abroad. He is a keen observer of the political scene in India and writes profusely on current affairs for several publications. He has several books to his credit. He has been Press Adviser to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and has been Director (Publications), Nehru Centre, Mumbai.
