Description
The author Ippolito Desideri a priest of the Society of Jesus went to Tibet to preach the gospel to the monks there. This book is an account of his travels and observations. The book starts with an essay on the various Jesuit missions sent to Tibet between 1625-1721. Desideri started his voyage in 1712 and concluded it in 1727. The book is divided into 4 parts. The first describes his journey; the second treats the nature, customs and civil government of Tibet; the third is a description of Buddhism as practiced in Tibet; and, the fourth describes his return to Rome.
