“When I started reading the book, I was hoping that it would not be a sermon by him as to how civil servants should behave, what they shoud do, what they should not etc. Nobody has the time nor the patience nor inclination nowadays to read or listen to any such thing. I find that Mr. Nair Had already realised that and taken care to avoid pontification of any kind.... The book is essentially an account of the various and varied experiences and episodes that Mr. Nair had encountered, undergone and been involved in, in those forty years. The events narrated are self-explanatory and interesting and I feel that they do indeed indirectly convey lessons which the newcomers to government service would do well to try to learn.... I had know Mr. Nair from 1981 during my Thumba days in Kerala. His narration of those days there makes easy and fascinating reading and while reading it, I was myself reliving those days in Thiruvananthapuram, more than a quarter century ago.... 'Memory Bytes' I find is really his reminiscences which include certain events that had happened during his tenure at Rashtrapati Bhavan too. To that extent, that part is a supplement to his first book dealing with his days at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
