Small-scale mushroom production represents an opportunity for farmers interested in an additional enterprise and is a speciality option for farmers without much land. This publication is designed for market gardeners who want to incorporate mushrooms into their systems and for those farmers who want to incorporate mushrooms into their systems and for those farmers who want to use mushroom cultivation as a way to extract value from woodlot thinnings and other "waste" materials. Mushroom production can play an important role in managing farm organic wastes when agricultural and food processing by-product are used growing media for edible fungi.

Dr. J.K. Singh is senior most Reader in the Deptt. of Botany, R a n c h I University, Ranchi having 28 years of teaching and research experience. He has written research papers and articles published in various national books on 'Environment, Forest and Biodiversity. He has attended number of seminars and conferences and presented his papers. He has also guided many Ph.D. students. Dr. U.K. Prasad is Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology, R a n c h I Agriculture College, under Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. He has attended many seminars & Conferences and presented his papers. Dr. (Mrs.) Anshu Priyadarshini has obtained Ph.D. on cultivation of different species of Mushroom after completing master degree in Botany with first division with Plant Pathology as area of specialisation. She has been awarded 'Gold Medal' for excellence in M.Sc. Presently she is working as a lecturer of Botany in oneof the Govt. College in Mumbai. She has also attended international seminars & conferences and presented her papers.
