This successful text was the first to address the latest teaching and learning trends as suggested by the Introductory University Physics Project (IUPP) guidelines. Physics: It features a concise approach to traditional topics, an early introduction to modern physics, integration of physics education research pedagogies, as well as the integration of contemporary topics throughout the text. Key Feature Featuring a streamlined and accessible approach, this edition has been meticulously overhauled to make the presentation of ideas and physical concepts more straightforward. The new edition of Physics: A Calculus-Based Approach incorporates morelife-science applications in the problems and examples to appeal to a wide student audience. A "General Problem-Solving Strategy" is outlined at the end of Chapter 1 and provides students with a structured process for solving problems. In the remaining chapters, the steps of the strategy are applied to specific classes of problems. "Quick Quizzes" provide students with opportunities to test their understanding of the physical concepts presented. Answers to all "Quick Quiz" questions are found at the end of each chapter. "Pitfall Preventions" address student misconceptions about physics and present the correct facts. "Pitfall Preventions" allow instructors to address these misconceptions before they get carried too far into the course. A modeling approach, based on four types of models commonly used by physicists, is introduced to help students understand that they are solving problems that approximate reality. "Thinking Physics" examples relate physics concepts to common experiences or extend the concepts "Thinking Physics" examples relate physics concepts to common experiences or extend the concepts beyond what is discussed in the text material. Calculus is added gradually, keeping in mind that students often take introductory courses in calculus and physics concurrently. Most steps are shown when basic equations are developed, and reference is often made to mathematical appendices at the end of the textbook. The End-of-Chapter Problems include over 1,500 problems throughout the text. Answers to odd-numbered problems are provided at the end of the book. A CD icon identifies color coded figures and curves in graphs. The color version of these figures/curves is available in the student CD provided with this book. Vectors are color coded, and curves in graphs are drawn in color. Table of Contents 1. Introduction and Vectors. 2. Motion in One Dimension. 3. Motion in Two Dimensions. 4. The Laws of Motion. 5.
