The book is a manifesto to establish democratized (or popular) and institutionalized Political Auditing for rescuing democracy from the clutches of oligarchy and its subversion by the vested interest. The democracies world over are urged to institutionalize and democratize political auditing to salvage it from the rule by the few, for the few and of the few. If the political actors world over refuse to institutionalize it, the civil society is urged to form their own political audit groups and liberate democracy from the 'Iron Law of Oligarchy'. However, the book is not outright critique of democracy and its political economy- capitalism. Democracy and capitalism are only good options among the worst alternatives of communism, mercantilism, Chinese brand of socialism, Fabianism, authoritarianism, dictatorship, etc. What is needed is a balanced course correction, and equitable growth and distributive justice should be factored in, to offset the deviation and distortion that has set in. Through the case study of Indian democracy and its political economy, the book analyzes the state of democracy world over. The main problem of democracy is that it has been highjacked by neo-liberals and has been used to further their interest. However, the book through case study of Indian democracy in particular and that of democracies as existing in the world in general comes to conclusion that lack of popular participation and proper representation, particularly the 'First-past-the-post' or 'winner-take-it- all' has been behind the subversion of democracy and its highjacking by oligarchy. The lack of transparency and responsibility has been its collaterals. This can be rectified through democratized (popular) and institutionalized political auditing.
