Banking in India has had a thorough shake-up in the year 1950 after independence and there after particularly with the conversion of Imperial Bank of India (A British Government Bank) into the State Bank of India and nationalization of 14 major commercial banks in July 1969 and 6 banks in 1980. The old concepts, attitudes and methods in banking have yield place to the new techniques of viability, need-based concept of eradication of poverty and generation of employment etc in finance and marketing. Banks, as Social organization have to go out to the people and assist the weaker and needy sections of society in achieving their aspirations. Thus, Banking in India now has turned into “banking for classes to banking for masses”. The present book “Practical Banking in India” consists of three parts. Part-1 Deals with financial management, Part-2 Relates to practice and law of Banking and Part-3 Covers the recent developments and growth of commercial banking in India. The book is of immense use for students of commerce and finance, bankers at all levels, traders, businessmen, NRIs, importers exporters, industrialists etc. I have tried to give maximum to my readers but it is not enough as the area of banking-knowledge is very vast and spreads with continuous changes worldover.
