Amongst the hundreds of letters that Rabindranath Tagore received every day, a letter complaining that he had stopped writing stories, from a twelve year old Ranu left him greatly amused. The poet had been shattered by the sudden demise of his eldest daughter Madhurilata. Out of the curiosity aroused by Ranu's letter, he went in search of her. When he met her, the distraught Rabindranath wondered whether she was a Heavenly angel sent to soothe his grieving heart. An unusual relationship developed between the fifty eight year old poet and the young Ranu bringing back to him the memories of his dead sister-in- law, while he became Ranu's own Bhanu Dada. Ranu's innocent love revived Rabindranath's youthful spirit and creativity, and perhaps, the poet had a glimpse of the world of enduring beauty. About The Autor SUNIL GANGOPADHYAY, a doyen of Bengali literature was born in Faridpur, Bangladesh.
