Shivaji The Great Maratha (3 in 1 Series) is a set of three graphic books from Amar Chitra Katha about the great Maratha hero, Chatrapathi Shivaji. Shivaji was a great warrior/patriot who fought against the Mughal rulers and the Bijapur sultanate. He was motivated by a need to rekindle the feeling of pride and freedom in his people, and establish self-rule for the Hindu people of his country. Though his motivation was partly religious, he was no fanatic and treated all his subjects well. His legendary exploits have been retold several times over the centuries, inspiring many generations to fight for freedom from different rulers - Mughals, Sultanates, and the British. This set of three books, with the stories written by Anant Pai, accompanied by the Amar Chitra Katha brand Illustrations, bring to life the story of this great hero. It can be a great gift to any child, teaching them a piece of the history of our motherland in an entertaining way. This book is a great addition to any collection of books on Indian history, especially for children. Anant Pai, who was the main force behind the creation of Amar Chitra Katha series and the children’s magazine, Tinkle, was born in Karnataka in 1929. He completed his studies in Mumbai and started to work for Times of India. He worked in their book division at the time Indrajal Comics was launched by the Times Group. Once, he watched a quiz program on Doordarshan where the participants answered questions from Greek mythology but where unable to name the mother of Rama in Ramayana. Anant Pai decided that it was time that Indian children learnt stories from Epics and legends of their own country. He left Times of India and started work on the Amar Chitra Katha series with India Book House. The Amar Chitra Kathabecame extremely popular, retelling stories from Indian epics, literature, legends and folktales in a graphic format. He was affectionately called Uncle Pai by the young readers of Amar Chitra Katha books.
