Author Biography
Professor Sailendra Nath Sen has been engaged in research and teaching since 1954. He has been awarded Ph.D. (1958) and D.Litt. (1970) degrees from the University of Calcutta for his research work on the history of the Marathas. He has to his credit two contributions on the history of the Marathas - Anglo-Maratha Relations During the Administration of Warren Hastings 1772-85 (1961) and Anglo-Maratha Relations (1974). After his retirement in 1994 as Professor of History, University of Calcutta, he has completed the last phase of the history of the Marathas in two volumes - Fall of the Maratha Empire 1796-1806 (2001) and Fall of the Maratha Empire 1807-18 (2003). His other publications include Ancient Indian History and Civilization (2nd edition), History of the Freedom Movement in India (3rd edition) and Europe and the World 1789-1945. He is now engaged in research work on the ‘Freedom Movement in Chandernagore’ and ‘Universal History’.
