This book cover the needs of veterinary and animal science to meet the requirements of these countries. The book provides the general background of veterinary virology. The first part of the book covers general virology in a concise manner with the hope that reader appreciates the nature of viruses, their pathogenicity and replicationof viruses etc. In second part, information on infections of vertebrates has been given with emphasis on diagnosis and preventive aspects of virus infections of domestic animals and poultry. Viruses of little or no pathogenic importance has been omitted while greater importance has been given to viruses of economic importance int eh developing countries of Asia and Africa. The book is intended to fulfill the needs of undergraduate veterinary students in general and post-gaduate students in microbiology in particular, besides the Veterinary disease investigators and practioners of veterinary medicine.
Author Biography
sSurendra Nath Sharma, B.Sc. (1952) & A.H. (1956), M.V.Sc. (Bacteriology, 1962), Ph.D. (Bacteriology and Vriology, 1967), worked for Masters as well as for Doctorate degree at Indian Veterinary Research Institute. Mukteswar/Izatnagar (U.P.). He worked as a field Veterinarian for four years and held academic appointments at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar (U.P.), Jawahar Lal Nehru Agriculture University, Jabalpur and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Satish Chandra Adlakha, B.V.Sc and A.H. (1956), M.V.Sc. (Bacteriology, 1961), Ph.D. (Microbiology, 1965), worked for his doctorate degree at All India Institute of medical sciences, new Delhi. He has had a distinguished research in Veterinary Microbiology and virology with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and held hte position of joint commissioner (Liverstock Health) in the Ministry of agricuture, Government of India and Agricultural Research Office of the U.S., Department of Agriculture, American Embassy, New Delhi. At present he is working with the International Voluntary Organisation on project 'HEIFER'.
