This is a classic tale of a young boy’s adventures, set in nineteenth century America. Summary Of The Book Tom Sawyer is a young boy who lives in a small town on the banks of the Mississippi River. He likes to extract the maximum amount of entertainment and adventure from any situation, and as a result, he always gets into trouble. But thanks tohis quick and nimble brain, he find ways to get out of them too. While The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer tells of the many escapades of Tom, the main thread in the story is about a murder that Tom and his friend, Huckleberry Finn, witness. They are afraid of the violent and hot tempered murderer, Injun Joe, and swear an oath not to tell anyone about what they had seen. However, when an innocent man is arrested charged with committing the murder, their conscience begins to nag them. At the trial, Tom tells the truth, but Injun Joe escapes and both boys are now afraid of what he might do to them. In the middle of all this, Tom manages to win the attention of a pretty girl in his school, finds a buried treasure, attends his own funeral, and gets lost in a cave. One of the most entertaining and memorable episodes in the book is the instance that involves Tom with the fence-painting. Tom’s aunt asks him to paint the fence, but Tom gets bored after a while and invents an ingenious way to get out of this chore. This book paints a lively picture of a young boy’s life in nineteenth century America, and is a classic that appeals to both the young and old. The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer was published in the year 1876. About Mark Twain Mark Twain is the pen name of Samuel Longhorn Clemens.
