Born in Canada, Anna Hestler developed a fascination with Asian culture during her wanderings through the streets of Toronto's Chinatown. After graduating from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies, she spent a year working in Indonesia before moving to Hong Kong, where she has lived for almost a decade. She worked at Oxford University Press before moving on to freelance writing. Her other books include Shanghai Posters (FormAsia), Cultures of the World: Yemen, and Cultures of the World: Wales (Times Books).
