Description
A young man from India leaves behind his job and the deadness of life, improbably, to go and live in Guyana. A raw, mesmerising country, open and slack, it is a place of freedoms. Here one day, footloose in drenched wooden Georgetown, he meets Baby, a diamond hunter. So begins a remarkable adventure. Through coastland and savannah, in dark rainforest and hustling town, amid laughter and lethargy, he travels a world entirely different from India. And yet, he begins to note that the departure from home can be ridden with complications. Even as he grasps the desperation of this forgotten place the descendants of African slaves and Indian labourers brought to Guyana by colonialists, hobbled by their circumstance he encounters the feisty, alluringjan. Though never really sure of each other, they embark on a journey that will take them far into a new country and change both their lives.
