Description
The Wildlife (Protection) Act, enacted in the year 1972 provides for the protection of wild animals, birds and plants for matters connected therewith or ancillary or incidental thereto with a view to ensuring the ecological and environmental security of the country. It provides the legal framework for conservation of India's rich biodiversity and its habitat. The Act has been amended from time to time to make its provisions stringent and effective. The most recent amendment took place in 2006. I had the privilege of piloting the amendment Act in the Parliament. Based on the recommendations of the Tiger Task Force appointed by Prime Minister and following the Sariska incident, it had become imperative to constitute a National Tiger Conservation Authority in the country. The amendment Act has done so in addition to legislating the establishment of Tiger and Other Endangered Species Crime Control Bureau. Table of Contents Foreword by A.
