The Albert Hall Museum in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is one of the finest museums of the 19th century, with a repository of 19000 objects. It was envisioned by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II and executed by his successor Sawai Madho Singh II at a time when Jaipur was making a transition from the feudal era, into a modern and model state. In the atmosphere of change, the vision for the museum was brought to life by Thomas Holbein Hendley. The collection that he put together is a valuable inheritance today: arms and armour, sculpture, international art, pottery, stone work, wood work, ivory, jewellery, clay models, musical instruments, coins and seals, carpets, and miniature paintings. The museum is home to the rare Persian Garden Carpet and also an Egyptian Mummy.Table of ContentsForeword Indrajit Singh Masuda Albert Halla 19th Century Museum In Historical Perspective Chandramani Singh Enigmatic Discoveries Material Culture Of Sambhar And Rairh Rajendra Yadav Chiselled Marvelsa Visual Feast Of Stone Sculptures Devendra Handa Imagined Realms paintings And Drawings Navina Haidar Haykel Earthen Jewels pottery Treasures From The Hendley Collection kristine Michael Engraved Epics ornamented Metal Objects Dipti Khera A Regal Panoply medieval And Modern Arms Bapa Dhrangadhra Melodic Splendours collection Of Musical Instruments Vijay Verma Threads And Needles variegated Textiles And Costumes Chandramani Singh Knotted Flowers magnify Cent Carpets Chandramani Singh Timeless Art compilation Of Decorative Arts Dharmendar Kanwar Bibliography Aacknowledgements
