The story in Vernon God Little is narrated by Vernon Little, a fifteen-year-old kid who is wrongly accused of murder. He flees to Mexico, where he plans to live in a cabin by the beach as he had seen in Against All Odds, a movie. But the American media and Deputy Vaine Gurie, who fails to follow the Pritikin Diet due to her irresistible urge to eat barbecued ribs from Bar-B-Chew Barn, are after his life. The book showcases the fact that when desperate times surface, even the most unlikely characters turn into heroes. It is a dark and satirical take on materialism and the American media, and portrays how innocent people are pursued and prosecuted purely for the sake of sensationalism. DBC Pierre won the Man Booker Prize for Vernon God Little in the year 2003. He was born in the year 1961, in South Australia and was raised in Mexico. Pierre has lived in Australia, Spain, the West Indies, and England. His real name is Peter Warren Finlay, but his friends named him Pierre. The initials DBC stand for ‘Dirty But Clean’.
