In Who Moved My Cheese?, the author tells an amusing yet motivational tale of four characters who live in a maze that include two mice named Sniff and Scurry, who do whatever it takes to get their daily sustenance in the form of cheese. The other two characters are tiny ‘people’ named Hem and Haw, for whom cheese is more than just mere sustenance. Instead, it is the very basis around which their lives revolve. They find a cheese station and organize a routine to continue relishing the same, and one fine day, they find out that their cheese is gone. How each of them reacts to the situation brings their attitude toward life out in the open, and moves the story along. While Haw believes that someone has moved their cheese, in reality, their complacent attitudes have blinded their eyes to the fact that they have consumed all the cheese. The mice continue searching for more cheese instantly, but Hem and Haw don’t realize that they need to adapt to change. The author uses cheese as a metaphor for all that people want in life: a great job, good health, abundant wealth, lasting love, and everything else in between. The maze symbolizes where they seek what we want, and it can be the workplace, home, or even the community that they live in. The moving cheese represents change. The author stresses that the inevitability of change can be turned into a positive factor, and he uses simplicity and humor to teach readers how to anticipate change, adapt to it, and enjoy it as well. The book provides a fresh perspective on life, and it is suitable for all ages. It is presented to schools, church groups, businesses, and military organizations, absolutely any place where people may fear or resist any kind of change. The book immediately made it to the New York Times business bestsellers list and stayed there for five years since its release. It also remained on Publishers Weekly’s hardcover non-fiction list for over two hundred weeks.
