Bill Faulkner excelled at university, completing an undergraduate degree in geography at the before undertaking his PhD at the . Bill was the foundation Director of the Bureau of Tourism Research and then became the Deputy CEO and Director of Research of Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism (CRC).

Liz Fredline completed her PhD under the supervision of Professor Bill Faulkner in 2000, in the area of Host Community Perceptions of the Impact of Events, and has co-authored a number of papers with him in this field. She is now a Lecturer in the and Hotel Management at .

Leo Jago is Professor in Tourism at and, after Bill Faulkner's death, he was appointed to the position of Deputy CEO and Director of Research of the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism (CRC).
