Description
Bihar is a state in flux, but a trail-blazer for the democratization of democracy. The socio-economic and political processes are an investment in the process of democratization which is gradually transforming Bihar. The democratic investment in Bihar have led to a change in the realm of socio-economic and political dominance. Keeping in view these changing circumstances, the basic objective of the book is to analyse the reasons behind the slow process of economic growth and to discuss the reasons which have affected the process of development in th state. The book aims to examine the interaction between the political processand the initiation and implementation of economic policies in Bihar. The book also gives an idea as how the central objectives of planning have not been achieved in Bihar. Bihar laggs behind the other states on the parameter of Human Development Index. This has accentuated the contradiction between socio-political transformation and economic backwardness which result in the naked struggle for power. Thereby, my emphasis is to analyse the socio-economic and political processes in changing circumstances and to find out why Bihar is shining like a diamond amongst the Bimaru states. The contemporary situations demands economic upliftment along with political participation.

Dr. Subodh Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi. He regularly writes in national newspapers and journals. He has presented paper at the international conferences.
